Frequently asked questions

What’s so good about having a local freelance writer?

Hiring a talented freelance copywriter in the same region as you has a few great benefits in comparison to someone on the other side of the country, or the world.

  • You can meet me in person and verify that I’m real, trustworthy and (relatively) normal

  • You can call me in to work through complex projects, sit in on meetings, conduct interviews, brainstorm ideas, and generally soak up that hard-to-reach info

  • I’m always about for an after-work social or cup of coffee, rather than just being a name on a screen

I’m a freelance writer serving businesses across Bristol, where I live, as well as the nearby city of Bath.

While I don’t live in the capital, I’m always passing through to see family - so I can easily work as your local freelance writer in London, too.

Why hire a freelance writer?

The freelance copywriter vs in-house or agency debate is a long and illustrious one. But, I don’t think there’s any need to pick your lane and stick to it.

A freelance writer is an ideal choice when you have a variable or unpredictable workload, project-specific budgets, tight deadlines, or team members who are reaching their capacity.

(Or all of the above!)

I can jump in and get to work instantly, without all the trouble of recruitment, organising equipment, sorting payroll and pensions, and all that.

Without the commitment of a permanent hire, you can save money by only spending on resource when you need it for specific deliverables.

As an independent freelance copywriter, I’m also at liberty to be completely (and constructively) direct about what is and isn’t working with your copy, content or marketing activities.

I bring a fresh perspective to copywriting that might be missing for in-house or agency staff suffering from ‘tunnel vision’.

How much does hiring a freelance copywriter cost?

How long is a piece of string? The cost of hiring a freelance writer for a project does depend entirely on its scope.

Fortunately, I’m on hand to quickly understand what it is you’re trying to achieve, your outputs and schedule. This is normally in the form of a brief, which you may create, or I will build it based on conversations we have.

I’ll convert that brief into a time estimate in most cases, and use that to determine a quote for the project. Or, for more open ended work like content or social media management, I can offer you a package of tailored services on a weekly or monthly basis for a set fee.

Regardless of the cost of your all-important project, you can rest assured that my rates offer excellent value. Your quote for freelance copywriting or content marketing services will always accurately reflect the time, effort and care it takes to create high quality outputs that achieve their objectives.

Do you work by project or on retainer?

I’m very flexible, and can normally work with whatever suits you best. Just drop me a line to talk about what you’re looking for, and we can work out what will fit just right with your needs, budgets, and working patterns.

I currently have a mix of clients, including:

  • Regular monthly retainers, such as 2 days a month, with the option of adding extra time on as needed for short-notice projects or extra bits

  • Clients that have no minimum working agreement with me, but send through work like clockwork at the start, middle or end of each month

  • Clients who get in touch every now and again when they need a project completed, ranging from the semi-regular to the highly sporadic
